A girl becomes an adult, and encounters many difficulties and trials along the way. But what a girl! An early feminist, a wit, a scholar... I love Ursula. I love her determination, her original thinking, and her refusal to give up, even when all seems lost. I particularly love her refusal to let men have it all their own way. Although the setting of the book and the dialogue are from the seventeenth century, the characters are immediately engaging, and we can empathise and sympathise with their various problems, and delight in their triumphs.

I liked the mix of Ursula narrating and the insertion of her scripts. I felt that kept up the pace of the book and added to the humour.

An intelligent ending too, one I didn't entirely see coming. An unusual and fun read.
