I spent every spare minute this week reading this book. It was a stunning debut novel with a very original voice.
Ursula is such a courageous character who is unashamedly herself in a time when women were expected to do little other than have children and obey their husbands. I loved reading her journey to follow her dream of writing plays.
The author was brilliant at conveying Restoration England. I loved the quirky writing style, the mini plays and the diary entries. It is laugh out loud funny at times but also very touching at others as Ursula tries to find happiness.
A quote on this book describes it as a 17th century Fleabag and I certainly agree.
It's also very difficult to believe this is the authors debut novel, it is so good. I will definitely be reading her future books.
