I received this book from the publisher via Readers First. This in no way affects my opinion of the book.

The illumination of Ursula Flight is an historical coming of age fiction that sounded as enjoyable as it’s cover looks. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t find the inside half as interesting as the outside. It is marketed as for fans of Sarah Waters or Jessie Burton but as a fan of their works, I’d say this isn’t remotely similar in any case other than being historical fiction and with a female main character.

The story follows the life of Ursula who wishes to be a playwright in a time when women had little say in anything, especially their own destinies. Despite all this she succeeds and is throwing into a gushing and dramatic life. It was predictable and quite frankly, a bit dull.
