Such a change of direction from this author ! I have read all Minette Walter's books and loved them . I also enjoy Historical novels too so I was very pleased to see this on the shelf.
Set in the terrible and turbulent times of the Black Death the story follows one household from the arrival of the unwelcome guest and the determination of one woman to keep it away and to keep her household safe. She faces much opposition and superstition , but nothing will change her mind . With the help of a few stalwart servants she hopes and prays that this dreadful pestilence will soon die out .
At the same time she is facing scorn and hatred from one family member who cannot seem to grasp that all the hardship is to keep them all from a most terrible death!
With the wealth of historical detail to savour this is a fantastic read
