I love reading historical fiction, especially when it is based around a subject or location I am familiar with, but wanting to know more about. I realise it is a work of fiction, but I really can imagine that what Minette Walters portrays in the story happened in England several hundred years ago- the feelings of the people having to live alongside "The Black Death".
I liked how you followed the characters journeys as if they were your own, the descriptions of desperation really resonating with the reader. However, I did find it a little odd of how forward thinking Lady Anne was (especially as this doesn't fit in with women's roles in medieval Britain) especially when it came to her religious views. But again, I'm no historian, so maybe there were women like that.
Overall, a highly enjoyable read that I would recommend to any history lover.
