I saved this book to read while on summer holiday and was so glad I did. An extremely well written novel it charts the story of the death of Sadie, a wealthy young woman, and the losses experienced by her best friend and local resident Avery. The Lomans are rich and powerful summer visitors to Littleport and have taken Avery under their wing since the death of her grandmother and earlier loss of her parents in a tragic car accident. Avery struggles to come to terms with yet another death while realising that her friendship with non-residents has driven a wedge between her and the locals. With no one to turn to and not knowing who to trusts she tries to understand the circumstances of Sadie’s death all the while seeing that she is implicating herself more with every step. Told in a series of flashbacks to the time of the death interspersed with the present day this had me hooked. While I thought I could see one plot twist coming there were others I missed until revealed. This was one of those books that I wanted to finish but didn’t want to end. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will look for others by the same author as soon as I’m back from holiday.
