The Last House Guest is the first novel I have read by Megan Miranda, so I didn't know what I was getting myself into. The plot was exciting and had enough plot twists to keep you engaged, though it is my no means the greatest thriller I have ever read

However, what Miranda excels at is creating relatable characters and an authentic scene, from which you can almost invision playing out like a movie as you read. I often find that most American set thrillers do little to really set the scene, particularly for non-American readers. Miranda did an excellent job at this from creating the scene and the well established characters to considering the weather, seasonal changes and the interactions between all the characters (including one's you don't even meet), which creates an authentic feeling 'little seaside town' that you feel like a part of.

After reading this, I have ordered several of Miranda's other books and I hope they live up to the high standards that The Last House Guest has set.
