Bit too dark, dry, and slow for my taste

It was a slow start to the book and I almost gave up a few times. It is, however, a good thriller in that I still wanted to see it through to the end once I got up to a certain point. As it is translated, perhaps the language comes off as somewhat more dry than I would normally prefer but it certainly captured the bleakness of the atmosphere if that was the aim.

Indeed, the atmosphere/setting is generally beautifully described so it is certainly effective in portraying that bleakness vividly.

I am not actually a huge person for a thriller generally so I come from a biased place to begin with. This was not the sort of book that necessarily shook me out my usual indifference to thrillers, but I think if my love of Scandi TV thrillers is anything to go by then this is certainly a book for those who enjoy that pace and cold bleakness that is often characteristic of those types of thrillers.
