This is another wonderfully dark story from Stina Jackson; set in a small village in northern Sweden it has a bleak, beautifully painted landscape. The writing is such that you feel like you are actually there, watching the story unfold.
Liv Björnlund has lived in Ödesmark her entire life; whilst many of the inhabitants have long since abandoned the area, she has remained steadfast sharing a dilapidated old farmhouse with her elderly father (Vidar) and her teenage son (Simon).
Liam Lilja and his older brother Gabriel are the local ne'er-do-wells - with a history of theft and drug dealing (and drug use). One of their clients suggests a robbery for them to carry out - Old Vidar Björnlund - because everyone in the area believes he has a fortune hidden away...
The story is mainly told from the prospective of Liv and Liam, with interluding chapters which go back in time following the story of an unnamed girl.
This is an enjoyable read, and I would thoroughly recommend it.
