I found this book very slow going. The story was OK, and there were a lot of interesting characters and great back stories but it wasn't a real page turner.

We are following the life of Liv, and her son Simon who live with Liv's father Vidar. Vidar is an unlikeable character, very controlling of Liv and Simon as well as ensuring the family is cut off from the rest of the society.

And then he is murdered.

This is a slow-paced murder mystery/thriller and follows the thoughts and emotions of a lot of suspicious characters. The character development is well-done and this creates a lot of sympathy for many of the characters.

I also really liked the Swedish forest environment which is so very different from the UK, and the outdoor lifestyle is really described well, giving the story that other worldly atmosphere to it.

Although it is not a full-on action thriller i enjoyed reading it and seeing the story develop.
