The Liar's Girl by Catherine Ryan Howard is about the return of Dublin's Canal Killer ten years after he was supposedly arrested and jailed for the murder of a number of students. Is it a copycat or is the wrong person incarcerated?
The jailed person has important information which he will only share with his ex girlfriend who has spent the last 10 years trying to rebuild her life.
So begins what I found to be a page turning thriller that flipped from the present day to 10 years previously. Sometimes this detracts from a book but in this case the author works it well and the change of timescale adds to the story.
So why only 4 stars? Well I would have liked a couple of the characters, particularly the police officer Shaw, background developed further.
This was the first book that I have read by this author but it won't be the last
