The genre for the long, long afternoon is indeed mystery and suspense, revolving around a mysterious disappearance. The main character, Vesper leads an interesting journey, carves a path and overall i found it very interesting to see how imaginative the author was. The cover of the novel is quite simple which can connote to how the darkest secrets often come from the simplest people, like Joyce Haney. Haney’s journey from a suburb in California to disappearance is definitely a journey the reader goes on too. Along with Mick Blanke, I also as a reader got to be a detective. The novel contextually explores the American dream, a really debatable topic, does it really mean freedom, i believe everyone has their own connotations of this, and that is for the reader to decide. This book is definitely worth a read, i would highly recommend this.
