I enjoyed this book far more than I expected to. It was very atmospheric and brought to life the suburban America of the 1950s in all its stifling, desperate glory.

It's the summer of 1959, and the well-trimmed lawns of Sunnylakes, California, wilt under the sun. At some point during the long, long afternoon, Joyce Haney, wife, mother, vanishes from her home, leaving behind two terrified children and a bloodstain on the kitchen floor . . .

This is a intriguing mystery that twists and turns in unexpected ways. There are secrets, lies, mistrust and the tensions of life in a divided, unequal and unfair society. I could not guess the ending. It is definitely worth reading and preserving with as it look me a few pages to really get into it. A very impressive debut novel. I will definitely be buying more of Inga Vesper's books when they are published.
