This book looks thick but I took only one day to finish it! I read it together with an audiobook and it was absolutely amazing. Its a read that also revolves around racial tensions where a black help is hired to take care of the children of a white family.
The story is based in 1959 Santa Monica, where Joyce, a white middleclass woman is expected to stay home and fulfil her wife duties. The 50s era was very well depicted and the white male superiority was captured. It was a very slow read but there were really unexpected twists at many points in the book which was actually quite shocking to me. Especially around the end of the book where things got so intense, I couldn't take my eyes of the book.
It is a perfect lazy afternoon read, especially with an audiobook where you can hear multiple point of views! The narrator did a very good job in narrating the story! This
