When you pick the book just as a souvenir to remind you the visit at the Imperial War Museum and later on during lockdown you find yourself absorbed in reading it.
Historical fiction is my main point of interest, so I was surprised to discover a very emotional and thrilling story within the pages. A book that is so valuable, because it puts into light one of the numerous conflicts in the world that are not widely publicised and are not a lot documented. It’s valuable as it brings a first hand perspective of a person who really experienced the war.
Alongside the storyline, I liked how the author portrayed every single character as if he wanted to make them all the main subject, revealing carefully their lives before the war and their living dramas in present.
But even with the successful mission of rescuing the sick child, you are left to think about all the people who aren’t so fortunate to live in peace times.
An absolutely amazing reading!
