A beautiful tale in an evocative setting. Haunting, it is set between two characters and details two important eras in their lives. The author is very descriptive of landscape and custom. Both the settings are tough and provide hardship for the community. The narrative does flip backwards and forwards in time, and each character is positioned at the forefront of their own chapters. So lots of short chapters which does make it a little confusing at times, but it is possible to read this book in chunks or longer if that suits you. It is quite easy to read, a little rambling in places, going in to detail a bit more than I was interested in, but all connected to the life and times in historical settings.
