Interesting read
This was not a book that gripped me from the start. It seemed a little slow to get going. It begins with Archie a prisoner of war and the flashback moments while he is captive, lay the groundwork for the story of the island of St Kilda, a place he has find memories of.
Then there is Rachel Anne who was born on the island and doesn't know who her father is. We learn everybody had to leave the island in 1940, and much of the tales are told in flashback form.
The contrast of the claustrophobic prison with the wide open space of the island is nicely written.
Overall this is a well constructed book, it is just a little slow paced for me personally. The characters are well written and the descriptive style is good.
