This is a book that is well worth reading. It is the story of Fred and Chrissie who fall in love but all does not go smoothly. She has lived all her life on the remote island of St Kilda. Life is very hard and the community is slowly dwindling in number. He is a student at Cambridge university who has come to do research on the island . Despite his promises of marriage Fred does not return to the island when his studies are done. The story moves back and forward in time between 1927 and 1941. Fred becomes a prisoner of war and only his desire to see Chrissie again and memories of the island gives him the will and strength to escape. This is a book for anyone who enjoys a well written love story.
