St Kilda has always fascinated me so any book that contains that very place has to be top of my list to read. "The Lost Lights of St Kilda" is more than a book about the islands ( as St Kilda is actually not one but four islands clustered together), but is very much about the people and where and how they lived and loved. Thrown into the mix is a soldier in the war and his memories about the islands that he visited so long before. These very memories are what sustains him while captured and being tortured by the Nazi's. His incarceration in a windowless cell and then being joined by other Scottish soldiers are what helps all of them to keep living. The descriptions of how the land lies and of the way of life brings it very much to life. A brilliant read!
