Sarah Evelyn Mackey is approaching 40. Freshly separated and soon divorced, she meets a man and falls in love with him while visiting her hometown of Gloucestershire. She spends seven wonderful days with Eddie David. For him, too, it seems to be great love. Then he has to travel, but promises Sarah that he'll get in touch with her. However, he doesn't call. And he does not react to Sarah's attempts to contact him. Her friends tell her to forget about him. But Sarah doesn't want to give up. She is convinced: something must have happened ...

"The man who didn’t call“ is a debut novel by Rosie Walsh.

My opinion:
The novel consists of three parts and is also divided into 51 chapters. The plot is not told chronologically. There are several leaps in time, which makes the story exciting. The story is mainly told from the first person perspective from Sarah's point of view, but later also from Eddie's point of view. Several letters and messages are also included. The structure of the novel works well.

The writing style is vivid and extremely lively. Many details and an almost poetic language make it easy to immerse yourself in the story.

The characters are multi-layered and appear authentic. I liked the main protagonist Sarah immediately. Although her thoughts and feelings are portrayed very clearly, it was difficult for me at first to understand why she is so attached to Eddie. But this also becomes clear as the plot progresses.

A big plus of the novel is that it isn't about a typical love story. It is neither boring nor predictable. The book is very different from others in its genre. Several twists and turns and a few surprises make the plot exciting, so that the reader can’t guess what actually happened until the very end.

In addition, the novel is emotional and moving. It's not just because of the love story. Serious issues like depression and loss also got me thinking. They give depth to the story.

The book is very nicely designed. I like the cover a lot. The title was chosen wisely.

My conclusion:
"The man who didn’t call“ by Rosie Walsh is an unusual love story. The moving novel was able to inspire and captivate me. I can absolutely recommend the entertaining book.
