Didn't live up to the hype

2.5 stars rounded down because I thought I had guessed it but I didn't, so it was clever. It was very put-downable unfortunately. I read the first couple chapters a couple weeks ago and didn't have any desire to pick it up again but everyone loved it so I had to keep going.

This was one of those the packaging doesn't coordinate with what you actually get. The blurb sounded like a love story you'd turn pages for desperately finding out what happened and have some romantic gesture to make everything alright again.

I guess it was a love story but I think too much of it was spent making you hate Eddie and suffer immense Fremdschämen for Sarah's behaviour that by the time we were supposed to be celebrating a love story I just wasn't feeling it.

The shock and awe part of the story did throw me a curve ball, though. I thought I knew what happened and who had done what but I had it all wonky. Goodreads says 2 stars is "it's okay" and that's how I feel about the plot and book as a whole but I give a little extra for the fact that I didn't guess quite correctly what the really dramatic revelation was.
