The book starts with Sarah and Eddie, having spent a week in each others company, openly admitting they are falling for each other and would need to work out how to overcome the problem of her living in California and him in Gloucestershire. She is leaving him to visit her family in Leicestershire and he is going on holiday with friends. And then, nothing. Sarah doesn't hear from him and he doesn't answer messages. She is frantic with worry and can't figure out what is wrong. She even contacts his friends via facebook and they haven't heard from him either.
During the course of the book we find out that there was an accident nearly twenty years ago and it caused Sarah to leave and go to the USA. She comes back every year on the anniversary to see her family.
It took me a while to work out which character was taking the narrative in parts of this, but once I worked it out, it all fell into place. Because of the way it is written, sometimes you have to wait a while before you find out what happened in the previous part with that particular character. The supporting characters have enough substance to round off the story quite nicely. I loved this book and read it in a day.
