It took me a little while to get into this book. While the premise of the story is really good it didn’t really grab me and I never really warmed to Aisla. That said, the setting and the way the Manse is described is fantastic and atmospheric and there are some really intriguing characters. There is a slight mix of the supernatural and unexplained in with some harsh realism and confrontation of the past. I would have liked the ending to be tied up more neatly I think and some of the characters to be developed a bit more deeply but overall this was an enjoyable read.
I’m giving it three stars as it just wasn’t gripping or as well written as a lot of other new ‘thrillers’ in this style but still well worth reading.
