I haven't read any of Jess Kidd's previous novels but, by the time I reached the end of the first chapter, I felt engaged with the characters, was impressed by her evocative scene-setting and intrigued by a story which is based on a real life event. I was disappointed not to be introduced any of the characters from the 1989 timeline ... maybe I'll get a chance to get to know them ... and to discover how the two time frames come together!
The cover is appealing, not just because of its portrayal of the 'night ship', but also because the layered colours below seem to promise a story which has hidden depths.
