Where do I start?
In 1945 a band of nine amazingly brave women made the breath taking attempt to escape from an enforced Nazi death march.
The situation truly was escape or die.
These women though French, Dutch and Spanish are bonded by their communal experiences and won't be parted and this book is the narrative of that awful journey from the place where they ran from their fate to the front where they could seek help and get back to their home countries.
The descriptions of the horrors and sick brutality they saw on their trek no one should ever have to go through and it truly was really hard even just reading it let alone experiencing it.
Told with great, in depth knowledge of the story but of course the author was a relative and did painstaking, exhaustive research to tell the story faithfully as an honour to those ladies memory.
Truly inspiring and a must read for those interesting in this difficult period of world history.
