This is the first novel I've read by Martyn Waites and I loved it!

The story begins with a disappearance in St. Petroc, Cornwall and by the end of the first chapter I had felt myself gripped and wanting to continue with this book. The best thing about this thriller was the way that nobody was called by surname, apart from the shady character 'Morrigan', who didn't have a first name, so you where kept guessing right until the end to whom this could be, and even which sex they could be, brilliant!

The story itself had a dark, intense feel to it and I enjoyed meeting the main character Tom Kilgannon and finding out the reasons behind his move to St. Petroc as part of a witness protection programme. I liked the way the story incorporated the relevant topic of Brexit and there was a slow, tentative build up to the relationship between Tom and Lila, a lost soul with secrets of her own.

I've put Martyn's name on to my favourite authors list now and look forward to catching up with his previous books as well as any new one's he may write.
