What a wonderful way of explaining that this person often does not sleep, in fact the first impression is of a person who is just as familiar with the sounds of the night as they are with the sounds of the daytime. Not for the reasons we would imagine, it is in fact the silence that is deafening. To us the reader this description of night time is comforting , warm and safe.

What trauma has led Emmy to lose so much weight?
The hint of humour is quite unexpected and it feels like cats are just as much a feature in this book as the two women.
The essence of the book at the start really is the contrast between the city and what I can only assume to be the country. One person's heaven could be another person's hell. Intriguing start with temptation to read on.
