When i first started reading this book i wasnt completely sure it was one I would finish. I thought it would be a more about lust/murder but i was wrong.
Set in a time where women are lower class citizens and to be used by men this book shows how Rebecca is married to a man she thinks is wonderful, but he holds a secret.

Alexander is a pharmasist who makes his own potions and then tests them on woman all in the name of a new invention/drug.

Rebecca becomes addicted to the drug, but after finding the secret she then the addiction and eventually overturns the power her husband had over her.

Its hard to imagine a time where woman couldnt own anything and had to ask permission for everything even walking out the door.

I found this book cleverly written, the characters really drew you in, their relationships were detailed and imaginative and even the locations you could visualise.

I finished ready the last 100 pages in a few hours as i didnt want to put the book down, wanted to see how it ended. I was fascinated with this book and very impressed.
