As I read the first chapter I wasn’t particularly drawn into this story, but as I read on, this book really consumed me. In a nutshell this is a very futuristic story about relationships and gender but it is written so well that this alternative world is so vivid and - unnervingly probable?
I liked how the author flits from two differing characters points of view and you are drawn to both Arthur and Victoria’s own different situations (with similarities of controlling by others)
It is similar to other futuristic, dystopian reads as there is a forbidding sense of anxiety throughout and there is certainly a climax where hope feels inaccessible to both Arthur and Victoria. I liked how we found out about Dana Mayer mainly through the other characters and she is very complex. Her intent at the beginning is to create a better world and this feels full of promise as there are some good changes made but as you read on this is not the way the world should be…..
