Ella, the main character is instantly likeable. The way the story is told and her mannerisms speak of an innocence that seems out of place in the camp/war. I love how she compares everyone to animals, an easy way to imagine the characteristics of those around her. I wouldn't usually go for the book (based on the blurb) but the preview has me hooked!
