The Saracens Mark is the third in a series of books and although it could be read as a stand alone novel its probably advisable to have read the previous two books first (Angels Mark and Serpents Mark) as this book does allude to the previous two. The book is very attractive to look at, certainly made me want to pick it up and read it. It is set in Elizabethan England brings back memories of what we've seen in the likes of Blackadder and this rings true in the world of murky betrayal. Also theres the small matter of the plague! The start of the book is quite slow but worth persevering with ultimately
The characters are complex but very well depicted, the settings are very descriptive and we almost feel like we are there at the heart of the moment. They work towards solving a murder from London and Morocco.
