I was really pleased when this book came up as I won 'The Serpents Mark' and really enjoyed it so I was keen to see what was next for Dr Shelby and Bianca Merton. From the covers these are not the usual books I would go for but I'm really glad I tried them because I found them real page turners. I really love Bianca, she is a very strong female character and I really enjoyed the romantic story line between her and Nicholas. There was quite a lot going on in the book, the plague storyline was really well written and interesting but maybe not the best thing to be reading during the coronavirus lockdown! The historical references to the Islamic world and the history of medicine were fascinating. There are some quite gory bits but not over the top and in keeping with the story.
