The Saracen’s Mark is the third book within the series by S W Perry, which I had not known prior to picking the book up and starting it. Perry’s writing style ensures than a reader does not feel alienated by picking up this as their first look into the Nicholas Shelby series. The previous escapades of the characters are mentioned with some regularity and depth- which may be off putting to those that have read the other books in the series.
The story is told beautifully, whilst often ensuring that you find yourself watching the events unfolding within your own imagination, without feeling as if you need something more from it.
A very interesting read, not only due to having captured Elizabethan England but also the colour and intrigue of Marrakesh, alongside everything else in between. The use of typical Elizabethan language was well executed with the balance being right to not lose a reader completely to older phraseology.
