This is the third book in the series about Bianca and Nicolas’ adventures in the 1590’s. The plague is creeping nearer and Robert Cecil manipulates Nicholas to undertake a mission in Marrakesh to investigate the disappearance of one of his informants.
The book follows events in England and the journey to Marrakesh told in the first person by our two hero’s. The prose flows beautifully and the plot nicely twisty with a few surprises. The characters are crafted believably and bring the period to life without long explanations of historical fact.
I think this novel is the best in the series and very readable even if you missed the first two. I really enjoyed it and can recommend it to readers outside of this genre.
