This is the first book I've read by the author but I was quickly hooked by the story. As the story progresses we discover what happened to Shelby and his friends in the previous books, so I didn't need to read the first two Jackdaw books first.
This book is set in Elizabethan London and the writing brings London to life - the poverty, the smells, the dangers and the crimes. However Shelby has to leave London and we are treated to detailed descriptions of Marrakech too. Shelby and Bianca have to fight for their lives as well as their relationship.
If you enjoy well written historical crime fiction, then I'm sure that you will enjoy this book too.
