This is the third in a series of books featuring Nicholas Shelby and Bianca Morton, but the first that I have read. I don't think that this matters though, and the book is strong enough to stand alone, and although references are clearly made to the previous books, not having read them did not interfere with my enjoyment of the story.
I felt the start was a little slow, and it took me a while to get into it, but I'm glad that I persevered. The characters grew on me as the book progressed, and the plot lines moved along at a good pace. I particularly enjoyed the description of London as the plague was approaching and it is clear the author has done lots of research into this period of history.
Now to go back and read the first 2 books!
