This book is written in the time following the French Revolution and is set mainly in Paris and Versailles. The history side is intriguing but it is written so well that it does not get bogged down or boring.

The descriptions are so real that you can see everything in your imagination and the character descriptions are so well done that you find yourself liking and disliking the characters. Gently covers the horrible side of the French Revolution and the hideous lives the commoners must have lived.

The main characters are fun, get on well and have decent morals that you can actually believe in.

I could, from the very first page, feel part of the adventure and thoroughly enjoyed every page. I read this in one day. It has definitely made me want to read the rest of the series.
