Matthew Reilly is an instant read author of mine;; always turning out fast paced books with thrilled plots, engaging characters and more often than not i read them in one sitting as I can put them down! Venturing into his latest YA novel was closer in size to his scarecrow novel than his Jack west ones, but i still found this younger cast engaging.
The time jumps were confusing at first as I am British as don’t know the layout and structure of New York so well, which is why Reilly’s hand drawn pictures and diagrams are always so well received and loved in his chapters. They really bring his creatures to life. They were more simple in this book, especially compares to jack west, but it helped make the slightly confusing doorway concept understandable.
I read the book in a few hours, but i didn’t see all of the twists coming and i was left wanting a second book to find out what happened afterwards to all of these characters! Reilly has only improved in his writing over the years and i look forward to every new announcement, even with such a change in genre and audience. Every book he writes is going on my dedicated Matthew Reilly Shelf, just waiting for the one impossible labyrinth now!
