Charity Norman is an outstanding writer who really excelled with this novel. The Secrets of Strangers was a deep exploration into the characters and their lives in this world. There was so much emotion packed into this that really made it gripping to follow.

The plot ambled along at a good pace with the hostage situation in the present day and flashbacks to the past. Sam was probably my favourite character in terms of development as I really came to empathise with him towards the end. The last few chapters where you're unsure what actions he might take had my heart pounding and a lump in my throat. I can't believe how much I ended up despising Robert and his manipulation as his personality was narrated by a young Sam. Abi, Neil and Mutesi were also such wonderful characters to follow as they battled with their own, different issues whilst being scared for their lives.

I'd highly recommend this novel to anyone who likes in-depth character studies as Norman is an excellent author for this.

Lastly, thank you to Reader's First and the publisher for the copy of this book (especially making sure it got sent out with the three month delay, thank you!).
