Sadly due to current events I have not yet received my advance copy, I contacted Readers First and received the following reply:
"Unfortunately the warehouse was unable to process our request for The Secret of Strangers before they closed, due to the COVID-19 situation. As soon as the warehouse re-opens all outstanding books will be dispatched."
Completely understandable (although disappointing as I'm desperate to read more!) so I can only describe my "first look".
I initially totally judged this book by it’s cover! When I got my readers first email I saw the photo and thought that looks like my sort of book. I read the blurb and decided that I’d definitely check out the sneak peek.
I’ve just finished the sneak peek – first three chapters and I’m hooked. Already I want to know all about the characters we’ve met so far, why is Neil homeless? Is the clinic going to give Abi good news? What has Mutesi had to go through to get where she is? And who was that boy yelling at Robert the cafe owner and why has he returned with a gun? I need to know what’s happening, I already feel invested in these characters!
The writing style is easy to follow and not full of filler material which would bore me. It seems to be fast paced and I can't wait for my copy to arrive!
