The book opens with the main characters in the initial 3 chapters, which reveals a little about who they are and what their lives are like - Neil, who is sleeping rough with his dog, Buddy; Abi, a defence lawyer; and Mutesi with her daughter, Brigitte and her grandson, Emmanuel. They start their usual order of the day but happen to visit Tuckbox, a cafe, on the same day around the same time.
Chapter 3 ends quite dramatically that indicates an event is going to change all of their lives. From the blurb of the book, I know this to be a hostage situation but if I didn’t know, I would be definitely be intrigued to read what happens next.
