This was an absolute delight of a book. The strangers who became friends, were so well fleshed out I feel as if I could recognise them and know them in real life, which is rare to find. I managed to a connection to all of them even the bad guy. They shared secrets with each other some of which were devastating.

The action of this story happens in a coffee shop where the cofee shop owner is fatally shot and many customers are caught up within it. The now dead coffee shop owner goes on to play a huge part in the others lives as they bond over seeing his death.

The book is beautifully written. We learn about each character through listening to their conversations, with each other and with the hostage negotiator, Eliza, who is another character in the book. It is often an emotional read, particularly when we listen to Sam (the shooter) and the reasons why his story led to the hostage situation.

The book is well plotted and planned and is beautifully balanced, with not a spare word. The ending is tragic but hopeful and it will leave the reader desolate. A fabulous read
