This is a particular kind of tale - very niche. From the outset the map and huge list of characters is either your kind of thing or not. Definitely not a book to dip in and out of. Although I like historical, and usually war-time books in general, this is definitely for a very particular audience and I'm ruled out.
The cover hints at the complexity and depth, I don't doubt those who are immediately engaged will enjoy getting to grips with this weighty book.
