A book that follows the life of Jack Fiskardo amidst the chaos of the Thirty Years War, from a young boy through to manhood.
The story is told in three parts with part one setting the scene between 1619-1622. Part two takes you back to Jacks life in 1610-1617 and then part three rounds up the story from 1623-1630. An unusual but brilliant way to tell a story.
As you follow the plot each character comes to life and is so well written you feel you know each person well.
You read about Jacks parents and after their death, the close friends who look out for him and also the friends Jack makes throughout this book and how well they are written into the three parts.
Please don't be put off from the Author's note and cast of character at the beginning of the book which I found unusual. Once I was into the story I couldn't put the book down. A real page turner. I look forward to Book Two 'The Dead Men'. I'd recommend you give it a go.
