I can’t say I liked it but it wasn’t bad

I was looking forward to this fantasy. I had steered myself away from it as a genre in anticipation of picking this up. I am afraid to say I was disappointed. Maybe I had set my expectations too high after reading epic fantasies like Misborn and Realm of the Elderling but the potential was enough to draw me in. I wanted so much more from the book than I believe it was ever able to give. The concept of this story was so intriguing, the mystery was appealing, I don’t know why really but it wasn’t able to tick any of those boxes for me. I’m sorry to say the writing style for me also left me wanting better. Normally a plot that bounces within its story is something that gives me the push to keep reading but unfortunately in this case it made the read all the more difficult to push through. I think the jumping of perspectives although usually a great tool for stories such as this made this particular reading experience more of a chore than I would have liked. I can see how every point I have made can be turned to be a positive for so many readers and I applaud them. It was not a bad book by any means just not what I wanted it to be I’m afraid.
