The Silver Wolf is the debut historical fiction novel by J C Harvey and it is also the first book of a trilogy set during the Thirty Years’ War.
The main character is Jack Fiskardo who is wiser than his tender years and the book follows his adventures.
The premis of the book sounded excellent with great scope to create an outstanding series that kept the reader thoroughly entertained and riveted, however, unfortunately the book fell short.
The story moved along at little more than a snails’ pace with there being just too much detail for me to enjoy the main storyline(s). I appreciate that the author clearly knows her subject matter but I felt that the book would have benefitted from following the “less is more” maxim.
So, overall I feel that this was a missed opportunity and I will not look out for future books in the series which is a disappointment
