Overall, it wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy this book I think I was just confused. I didn’t understand the different points of view for quite a while in the book, trying to follow Erma and then ‘the barbarian’ and jumping between scenes was a little confusing. I loved the story of Erma, did find her a fascinating character and her relationships with different students. The book however appears to change genres half way through and slip into a bit more of a fantasy novel which isn’t really what you expect when you want to dive into a thriller. I think the author was trying to combine too many ideas into one book and it just didn’t work for me. It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t read any others by this author but sometimes a simpler plot may be the way to go to ensure a fast paced thrill, especially for readers like me who are such huge fans of thrillers this was just slightly disappointing unfortunately.
