2, maybe 2.5 stars.

This was odd. I've not read anything by Iain Ryan before so I don't know if this is his typical style. The first chapter(s) was/were interesting. We're introduced to Erma, she's got some beef with her assistant Jenny whose reported her to HR for misconduct. I was intrigued, wanted to know how that was all going to go down. But it all kinda wandered from there. Erma is very troubled and showed quite an addictive personalty whereby once she set her mind to something, it could not be veered off course.

The truest part of the cover is the line Erma Bridges is keeping secrets from herself. Oh boy, she definitely was. This would have been a really fascinating thriller if we just stuck to this aspect. Instead, it was two thrillers, a mystery and a fantasy all mashed into one.

There was too much going on for it to mesh well and not enough time to flesh out all the story lines introduced to us.

This felt like Iain Ryan had at least 3 stories to tell but was only given 1 book deal.
