Set in Dorset in 1642 this is the story of a Dorset physician, Jayne Swift from a Royalist family who works to treat both sides in the civil war conflict. Her companion at almost every event she attends is William Harrier. He supports the civil war as a means to an end and though Jayne should despise him, he is with her most of the time and she knows nothing of his past. A man of mystery.
