I've always enjoyed Minette Walter's engaging, well-crafted crime stories and, having read the first two chapters of her latest novel, which evoke a powerful sense of time and place, it's clear that she has very effectively turned her skills to writing a historical story. However, I've read a lot of books set in this period and don't feel tempted by this one.
